As an artist of color, I have yet to work as a teacher for a theatre company that allowed me to teach their &quot;studio classes&quot;-- instead, I have always been shipped out to the &quot;satellite&quot; locations (read: inner-city schools) so that the students can see &quot;someone like themselves&quot; (I did not grow up in a remotely urban environment, and my childhood, while not cushy, could by no stretch of the imagination be deemed economically or educationally underprivileged). I always felt vaguely uncomfortable in this role.

The only two programs that did not elicit these feelings in me were Teatro Meta at The Old Globe in San Diego and The Young Playwright&#039;s Festival here in Chicago. But man. Yeah. This post just totally spoke to me.</description>
